Dolan, Gryphon and Ricky
The photos here at the top of this page
are of Ricky having his first tie up
lesson on the 20th January 2008.
Dolan of course decided he just HAD to
help his half brother...
Its actually great when they interact like
this as it teaches the one tied up not to
panic if another horse pulls their lead,
hassles them or as you can see, walks
UNDER their lead.
Monday 21st January we had David
Anderson from Port Augusta
Veterinary Clinic here to do some
geldings, vet checks, microchip, teeth
and preg scans.
Burleigh as you can see at right
wasnt fussed about the goings on.
Below is Dolan being sedated and
then gelded.
David is brilliant and is very horsey
himself.  He is also an AI specialist.
Dolan took a little while to wake up
and stand up, and was a little dopey
for a while.  Im sure that Ceilidh was
quite relieved that she actually got 5
minutes peace when he got back in
the yard with her.  Truth be told, she
really didnt even notice or care that
he was gone (he was led down to the
round yard to be gelded down there)
until he came back - and then she
only poked her head over the fence
as if to say "Oh there you are!"
Below is Ceilidh in our new crush, which as you can see is still not completed!!
However, it worked well enough for us to use it for the day!
It still needs a front door and the side closest to the camera completing - the
lower half is getting 2 inch mesh doors on it - you can see the framework for one
door already there.  That entire side is a big door that can swing open.
Ceilidh scanned Positive In Foal - its a very
poor photograph, but at right you can see
her 'blob' in the centre, which is surrounded
by amniotic fluid (the black section).
This is the FIRST photo of the 2008 foals!
Lol.  She is due the 23rd November 2008.
We have other foals due earlier, however
this is the first one to be photographed!
Below is the lovely Folly (Baxters Faberge).
She is a lovely mare and we are very
pleased to have her in our herd.
Right, Below and Below Right is
Gryphon having some antiseptic spray,
being shaved and then having a
microchip inserted.  He was as good as
gold!
Right is Ricky standing waiting to be
examined.  I missed getting shots of him
having his heart rate checked and being
handled by David.
Above is Maj in the crush waiting to be
scanned.  She was PG'd and thrown back
out with Billara Beersheba after scanning
empty.  She had a false pregnancy in sympathy with the other mares!  She even
went to the extent of bagging up, getting milk in her teats, going long and loose
in the girly bits... then all of a sudden the week before the vet came, she started
decreasing in size and the udder disappeared!  We were NOT amused as you
could well imagine!  Oh well, nothing we can do about it but try again!
