CM Brigadier Royston "Jack" was born at 5:50am on Friday the 7th November 2008. He is out of Billara Killari and is by Allen Park Bald Eagle
So, how did he get his name? We have decided that all of Killaris foals will be named in keeping with the Australian Light Horse style names. We have Billara Beersheba, and we had CM Bushveldt Carbineer. Here is a little about where his name comes from: Legend has it that South African-born Brigadier J.R. Royston, 3rd Brigade Commander, became known to his men as "Galloping Jack" by wearing out 14 horses in his wild dashes along the line rallying his men when trouble threatened. Royston had a long and distinguished military career, serving as a teenager in the Zulu War, 1879 and Commanding the 5th and 6th Contingent of the Western Australian Mounted Infantry during the Boer War. He went on to command in WW1. He is a lovely bay colt with a bold white star. He has lovely long legs, is friendly and extremely vocal even at just a few hours old. He is 25% Cleveland Bay, and will be registered with the CBHSA. With Bald Eagle as his sire, he should be able to jump!
Above: KIsses from mum! Below left and middle: Not in the feed tub Jack! Killari was a little concerned it would mean less food for her.... she needn't worry though - hes not big enough to steal her tucker just yet! Below right: Both pulling faces!
When he dried out a little more and the sun came up we managed to get a couple of shots of him... then the rain started.... One name suggestion was "November Rain" and Axel for short.... but of course as you can see we decided against that
The view of the first foaling yard taken from the truck is below. In one of the photos above you can see the truck in the background - with the side doors opened up and our queen sized bed in there. We have a camera over the first foaling yard, but seeing as we have three girls on close watch in both yards, we are camped out in the truck in comfort! We will update the site with more photos of Jack as we take them!
