Dolan, Gryphon,
Ricky and the girls...
24th November 2007

Here are a collection of shots taken on
the day we let Gryphon, Ricky and
their mums out with Ceilidh and Dolan.
We deliberately waited a little while so
that the younger boys werent too little
for Dolan to get playful with!
I was expecting them to run around
when we put them in together, however
the girls saw the hay bale and headed
right for it!  They werent moving, so the
kids didnt move very far either!
Dolan wanted to say hello, but the girls
werent quite ready to let him.
Ceilidh was actually quite keen to say hello to the
new babies she hadnt met yet... the girls werent
quite ready for that either...But I would say that in
24 hours or so, they will all be best buddies again.
We dont have the luxury of very much grazing
here, so all our horses are hand fed all year
round.  We have taken to parking large bales in
the paddocks for them to feed themselves.
We find that feeding in this manner keeps their gut moving as they dont go looking for anything and
pick up sand.  Sure, we perhaps go through a little more hay than we 'need' to feed wise, however the
girls condition - ie: happy, well covered and shiney - just proves to us that we are doing the right thing.
You can see Gryphon has been into the mud with it all down his offside front leg in the above
photos...He was only near mud for about 5 minutes, (Denny overflowed the trough again) - so Amelia
- you are going to have a hard to keep this little guy clean! lol... Best of luck with that! :-)
Ricky as you can see at left here is filling
out quite nicely...
Hopefully in the next few days I will be able
to get some 'action' shots of the boys
running around the paddock...
Dolan is sure to lead the charge, he is so
playful and just wants to GO GO GO and
has to be into everything.
When Gryph and RIcky were put in the
paddock with him, he was charging
around and calling out to them, wanting
them to play.  They just followed their
mothers to the hay bale and that was it.
Though I am sure that over the next few
days as they relax a little in their new
paddock things will change very quickly!
Follys figure is bouncing back quite well,
Burleigh on the other hand looks like she
could pop another two foals out... Ceilidh
looks like she may have another one! lol.
