CM Dolan Kearney Sire: Allen Park Bald Eagle Dam: CM Killarnie Ceilidh (CBSH) DOB: Friday 12th October 2007, 7:33pm Here on this page you will find images from Dolans birth! Ceilidh decided to have him at a decent hour again - shes good at that!! This is the third foal she has had, and the third time that it has been at a reasonable hour! We are quite impressed with her knack of timing it well for us!
At 7:05pm Ceilidh started getting a bit agitated and was up and down a few times til 7:25pm when the bag first showed as you can see in the above image. It all happened very quickly from there and Ceilidh didnt need much assistance, Craig just helped her a little with passing his shoulders and then just helped guide him onto the ground.
The biggest worry was that she had chosen to lay down right in the corner and he was aimed at the fence!! Its rubber - but still not really what you want to be born into and headbutt as you are born!! By 7:33pm he was out and Ceilidh stood up.
We had phoned friends of ours as their children wanted to see a foal born - they arrived in time to witness it and loved it. As you can see the kids wasted no time in getting in for a pat. Ceilidh is such a wonderful mare that she is not at all worried about the attention she or her foals receive during the birth.
We were thrilled to discover that Dolan was indeed BLACK! He had that lovely silvery look that the blacks are born with. At first we were trying to work out whether he was a Black or a very dark Bay. It was later in the night when he had dried out properly that we discovered that he really was Black. It was also at that time that we discovered that he really was a BOY! When he was first born there was a little confusion as we didnt poke and prod him too greatly - just iodined the umbilical stump and let him work out how to use his legs....
It was only when we had to give 'her' an enema as 'she' was straining a little that we discovered that 'she' was really a 'he'. When the stump was iodined Craig only had a very quick glance and didnt see any real signs of a sheath that stood out! That first night he certainly didnt have a lot of 'equipment' to show off. We had already picked out a fillys name, so had to do a quick change - oh well, gives us a name to keep up our sleeves!!
| Right from the word go Dolan has been friendly and wanting to see what you are up to, as you can see by him saying Hello to Craig above. We hope you have enjoyed seeing his birth!
