September 2011 at CM Sporthorses
Spring certainly is in
the air these days!
September is of
course the official
start of Spring here in
the Southern
Hemisphere - and
don't we know it
weather wise!
At left you can see
Roc meeting Frank,
and also the reason
Frank failed as a
racehorse - he can be
beaten by a Donkey!!
The 'boys' are all out together now
- Roc (the Perlino QH Stallion),
Wizard (Ashlee's project pony!),
Beau (the gorgeous old boy),
Rusty (the 2 yr old gelding who
should be named Mozzie -
because he hangs around like
one!), Frank (the STB gelding)
and Winky-Wonky-Donkey!
Having been on clover for a
couple of weeks, Frank and
Winky-Wonky decided to be a
bit of a pain to catch (normally
they catch themselves!!), but
we did it, and Ash led them up
to the paddock to go in with
the other boys.... they all had
a lovely run around in the sun.
You can see
Winkys neck has
'fallen over' -
apparently this is
a result of being
too fat at some
point!  It doesnt
worry him at all
though and he
has settled in here
nicely!
Roc is feeling his
hormones as the
Spring weather
has hit, and for
once he doesnt
have mares in
with him!
The poor lad is
probably a bit
frustrated as its
'that time of year'
for him, but he
doesnt have the
ladies with him as
yet!
At the moment I
do not have
anything that I
want to put him
over - as the girls
are waiting to
drop their foals!
That and my aims
are now to be
breeding more
CB blood than
anything else...
I thought it was about time to share some photos of the
property while it is green!
It doesnt last long here so we have to get photographic proof
that it DOES happen!
Below you can see Roc - having just seen
Winky-Wonky for the first time in the same
paddock as him...   Winky is about the ONLY
thing that has ever made Roc snort at
something!   He got over it in 2 seconds flat.
Bill looks like he should be in the paddock with the mares who are about
to foal... I dont think anyone told him he has the wrong equipment to be a
broodmare!
He currently has CM StaaLite (Annie), Allen Park Spook - both belonging
to Allen Park Stud, and Lady Tuthaside in with him.
Little does he know, he is having another mare join him very shortly!
Lucky Bill!   He is such a smoocher and loves it when Ashlee gives him
chin rubs and is the first one up to the bucket - not that he NEEDS the
extra feed - but he does like a nibble at whatever is on offer!!
She's Got Ego dropped her CM Bedford Forrest foal - she snuck this one
in on Craig as she didnt bag up at all til she had had him, and according
to the estimated size of the fetus at scanning - no one thought she was
due til November!   Sneaky girl!  Highrail Crossroads is a big colt and is
being retained by
Highrail Sporthorses for the time being.   Sundance (by
Billara Beersheba) is also growing nicely!
Below are the two 'newbies' on the block - Billara Millie (the lighter bay)
and Denita - Millies dam, both are Cleveland Bay Sporthorse mares.
Both mares are lovely girls with great temperaments!
At left and below you can see the sheep - freshly shorn, and the two
lambs who are growing like weeds!!!   The cows - Bolognese and Mabel
are quite happy grazing with them!
At left you can see Helen on Beau - she
is borrowing him for a while to get some
confidence back.   He is such a trooper
and is ideal for the job he is needed for!
Below is the beautiful Jenni (CM
Commanding Miss) - with her Roc baby
safe and sound inside that big belly!
Left: Ceilidh is just
looking grumpy as
there was a goat in her
paddock... she was not
amused.... As usual,
pregnancy agrees with
her and those dapples
are just popping out!
Below left: A close up
of Winkys eye!
Below: Its just not a trip
up the laneway without
goats and dogs!
At Right is Roc having
a canter up the
paddock... and below is
Winky, with Wizard,
Frank and Rusty
behind him!
A beautiful full moon on the
12th of September - Its not as
clear a shot as it could be -
We were in the car and I
would have liked to have had
a tripod and get a longer
exposure.   Any slower with
the shutter speed and I would
have had a lot of blur!

Below you can see the header
for Ashlee's venture:
Ashlee's Magic Touch
She is quite a lovely young
horsewoman these days and
has taken on a few projects to
work and sell on for the
owners.
Check out her site and what
she does!
The 18th of September - and you can see how quickly
everything is turning yellow!    A few warm days, a bit of wind,
and no moisture and its drying out fast!   Thank goodness I
took those pics of the place green a week or so ago!
Above you can see Breeze and I having a bit of a cuddle.
She and Ceilidh are both looking very uncomfortable, and are
spending their time in the foaling yard and the back yard
grazing at the moment while waiting to have their foals.
The laneway has the goats mowing it at the moment.    The stallion
paddock at the front of the property is drying out considerably as well
now too.   The girls had a bit of a groom on this day, manes combed,
some excess hair stripped from them.... they loved the scratches!
The photo below left was taken from the back door - looking down
the yard - the foaling yards on the left hand side, and the view goes
down through to the arena.
Ceilidh and Breeze opted to retreat to the shade for a while.   Both girls have wax, and are very smoochy at the moment as
well as being quite uncomfortable with themselves.  Just hurry up and spit those foals out please ladies!!
The 22nd of September was a lovely day, and
we did some horse shuffling...
Dancer, Maxy, Frank and Rusty went down to
10 acres behind our property that belongs to
a local farmer.  Ashlee and Jess led them
down there with the help of Fliss and Squirt.
Bill and his girls who are
in the 20 acre paddock
that also belongs to the
farmer were interested in
seeing what was going
on and came up to the
fence to investigate.
Dancer decided it was a
bit hard to get up the
bank on the side of the
road, but once Maxy
walked up it, Dancer did
too!
Frank looks like a giant in with
the 'kids' - and he gets to play
'sensible uncle' to the
youngsters!   I think he is
starting to fill out a bit more
now, and is such a cruisy boy!
Above: Frank looking like a bit of a
spunk!  He is such a sweet boy!
Left: Rusty - the 2 yr old by Bill (who
is at right).  Rusty is for sale if
anyone is interested!  He will be a
ripper of a pony - and will only be
about 14hh when mature.
Below: Dee - who is now in with Bill.
Fingers crossed for a lovely 62.5%
Cleveland Bay Sporthorse foal next
season from Denita and Billara
Beersheba!  Millie is currently in with Roc
On, and that foal will be either Buckskin
(most likely) or Palomino - and will be
37.5% Cleveland Bay.  I do want to put a
purebred over Millie, however will most
likely have to do that via AI unless a
purebred stallion with different bloodlines
to her becomes available in SA next
season!   I want to concentrate on
getting her going under saddle this year
- so dont want to send her away to stud.
On the 23rd, Ash got some riding time in on Wizard which was
great as she took him to the Wudinna Show on the 24th!
Early hours of the 24th - the little ripper at right was born!!!
Killarnie Breeze presented us with a gorgeous Bay Tobiano
Colt by Allen Park Braveheart!   He is for sale!
On the 26th of September, Bill had a new 'wife' enter his
paddock - an outside mare who was coming to be
served.    The other girls thought it was great fun - a
new horse in the paddock with them and they had a bit
of a hoon around.
Lady was showing off a little which was lovely to see.
Dee tried to stay close to Bill - because she considers
him HERS thankyou very much!
The new mare was well and truly in season, and within
about 3 minutes, Bill had served her!   Go Bill!
After he served her, he came wandering over to the car,
stuck his head in the back window that was open to say
hello to the kids in the back seat, and then rested his
chin on the roof for a while!
Annie and Spook were more interested in
eating than anything else, and Bill went
over and ate with Dee again, those two
have hit it off really well...
Dee's gorgeous face is at right.    She
has such a lovely soft expression.
Bill has certainly 'chunked up' over the
last few months and is looking a bit porky
at the moment, but he is working with his
girls - so it wont hurt him!
He will have to come in and get some
work in a couple of months when he has
finished serving.
It is so lovely having stallions who just
adore the company, and share the
paddock with their mares so well.
Below you can see Maxy
(at right) and Dancer (left)
- both having a good old
hoon in their 10 acre
paddock.    They are in
with Rusty, Wizard and
Frank at the moment.
Yes folks, its that time of year
again!!!
They hay has been cut and baled in
the paddock up behind where Bill
and his girls are residing.
Thanks to Jo and Jason - I now have
some bales in my horse float to feed
those in the stable if the need arises
(I dont have anything stabled at the
moment!)
Congratulations to Leonie Dean on the purchase of her
next superstar in the Para-Dressage Arena!
Leonie is going to call the little bloke 'Spike' as a paddock
name we think, and she is trying to figure out a 'fancy'
name for him!   We shall announce it as soon as we can!
Di Thomas from Pinesview Stables, Wirrulla, brought her lovely TB
mare, Pinesview Gift Of Silver, down to visit Bill on the 29th of
September.    Denita and Rayne made sure that Silver wasnt allowed
too close to Bill - or rather that HE wasnt allowed too close to her!
When the time is right and she is ready to be served, it will be a
completely different story though and Bill will do his job!
Silver is a complimentary service after Di got her beautiful Cody in foal
last year to Tobi, only to have her tragically killed by a truck just a few
weeks after getting her home from being served.
Spike and his mum, Breeze, went out into the arena paddock on the 30th of September, and had a bit of a run around and
enjoyed the space and freedom!    He had been in the foaling yard since birth due to kuckling over slightly in one fetlock - a
result of a tendon being a bit slack.    It has, however, tightened up and there is no sign of it at all now.   As with most
newborns - little things like that often correct themselves with time - at other times you do need to intervene - however in this
case it was not necessary.
Jenni came in to the foaling yard to share it with Ceilidh... she is due on the 6th of October.    Donna has FINALLY started to
get a bit of an udder - about time Donna!!!!!
So, unless in the next 9 minutes, one of them spits out a foal - this wraps up September here at CM Sporthorses!
The only other bit of news - which is on the News and Happenings page, and For Sale page - is that I am selling up and
moving.    It is going to break my heart to move, however it is for the sake of my health, and my desire to get the horses out
and shown that I am making this decisions mainly.
