CM Moonshadow
Sire: CM Bedford Forrest
Dam: Lady Tuthaside
DOB: 10th April 2011
CBHSA Reg: TBA - Pending

Lady certainly did well this time around!   A gorgeous colt, bright bay, does
not look like going grey, one blue eye and a big blaze.
He is a lovely fellow and should make his daddy proud!
A full brother for CM Blue Moon!

Mickayla has named him Chocolate or Choccy/Choco as a paddock name -
we are yet to come up with a name for him to be registered as - however
going by the last two from Lady for us - CM Midnight Moonlight, and CM Blue
Moon, and given that he has a blue eye, and his full brother from last year
was named Frank and CM Blue Moon after Frank Sinatra being 'ol blue
eyes' - somethign along those lines would be fitting and I would like to get
the 'moon' in there somewhere as well :)

I wandered out about 9:30pm or so to turn on the light in the foaling yard -
and as I poked my head out the door, thought 'hmmm I can smell amniotic
fluid'..... had a look and yep, sure enough, there was a little bay bundle
sitting on the ground!   Lady snuck him in on us!

I ran back inside to grab the camera - yelled 'FOAL' at the top of my lungs,
and Craig and Mickayla made their way out of their beds and out to the
foaling yard!    He is a gorgeous boy, bright as a button and quite a little
character even at this young age!
Choccy is a BIG boy as
you can see!  I love the
shot of mum licking him!
Of course, with every
birth there comes the
phone calls that must be
made!    I think I was on
the phone to Kathy
Macfarlane from Kalgary
Stud (who bought CM
Midnight Moonlight,
Choccys half sister) from
us a couple of years ago,
at the time of these pics
being taken!
Above you can see Craig
and I with the young
bloke!  At right - he went
over to see Mickayla and
see if she had anything
for him to drink!
Above are some shots of Mickayla with Choccy - testing
his suck reflex and generally having a cuddle!  Nothing
better than cuddles from a newborn foal!
This young fellow is headed for New South Wales, to Sue Cullen and her partner Steve of Killarnie Stud, Moruya, when he is
weaned.   Sue bred his sire,
CM Bedford Forrest - Forrests dam - Killarnie Breeze, and our lovely girl CM Killarnie Ceilidh!
These photos of the
boy taken in daylight
are when he was
about 13 hours old.
Starting to unfold a
bit more and find his
legs - he is a lot
steadier on them -
and well, thats a
pretty good
achievement as they
are such looonnnng
legs!!!    A lot of
distance between
brain and hooves!
Above right - yes ok, so we knew
it had to happen - that classic
cleveland foal ear shot!!  Above:
figuring out the ground is further
away than his neck is long.
Above: Life is pretty good when you have
your milk on tap! We were a little
concerned about how much he was
getting at first, but he is really digging in
and drinking well!  Lady is such a patient
mum and only got a little annoyed with
him 'playing' with her teats for ages!
Choccy is pictured above in May 2011 at a month old... He is a spunky fellow who KNOWS he is just too cute for his own
good, and he is going to be a cheeky boy who looks like he may well be feeling his dangly bits fairly early on by the way he
is carrying on already!   His in love with
CM Rain Dancer... and is constantly following her around everywhere!
On the 31st of May, Lady and Honey were taken across to
Craigs property on the other side of Minnipa - the bubs
followed along, needing to stop every now and then for a
drink - a km and a half is a long way for a baby in the big
bad world!!    They were really well behaved, and were
heading over there so that our vet, Greg Sezun, from
Southern Veterinary Services, could see them the next day.
While Lady was in the crush, Choccy
was in the foal yard alongside, and after
she was dealt with, Choccy had his
halter put on and was microchipped for
his registration identification.
A couple of cuddles
from mum and dad,
with Lady looking
on, and he was
lulled into a false
sense of security -
and then the big
needle with the chip
was inserted into
his neck - not
impressed!
Choccy will have some more handling shortly... he is a real little
sweetie at the moment and we just love him to bits and know that
Sue will love him as well when she gets him home!
Choccy was being handled by Ashlee and was
doing very well... and at left you can see him
hooning in the paddock alongside Beau, who
had adopted him of sorts, on the 12th of
August 2011.

On the 14th of August 2011, Choc was found
in the paddock with a shattered leg above the
knee and had to be put down :(   It was
heartbreaking, and looks like he has copped a
kick from another horse in the paddock.
