August 2011 at CM Sporthorses!
August 2011 has been quite hectic here at CM Sporthorses!   The beginning of the month was flat out with getting organised
and ready for the
Dilutes Australia Youngstock Show, which was held at Roseworthy Ag College, Roseworthy, SA.
It was a bit of a thrill as well as there were 5 youngsters all by Billara Beersheba entered in the Cleveland Bay ring and the SA
Equine Forum ring as well.   All of the youngsters did extremely well - you can see a full writeup on the day on the link above.
Bill, pictured below left with his little
'herd' - was quite oblivious to the
goings on at the show - and was
only interested in whether the three
mares in with him were interested in
HIM!   He is such a lovely boy and is
a gentleman in the paddock with his
ladies and the youngsters.
Ashlee has a project pony to work
on as well - Wizard - who you can
see below with Ash and with me.
Heatwave, belonging to Miriam
Brands, of Wudinna, is also
here for Ashlee to do some
work with and sell for Miriam.
He is pictured at left - and is by
Billara Beersheba out of a
lovely little strawberry roan
mare of welsh breeding.
Choccy - CM Moonshadow - is
pictured at right and below -
sadly, two days after these
shots were taken, we had to
put him down with a broken leg.
It was heartbreaking but there
was no choice in the matter.
We will never know exactly
what happened, however
there was no way on earth that
it was at all repairable, and the
only consolation I guess is that
up til he was put down, in the
short time between
discovering him with the leg
and the deed being done, he
was ears pricked, eating, and
seemed quite happy.  He did
not appear to be in a huge
amount of distress with it.
The girls are all expanding at a great rate of knots!   Above right is
Breeze, ready to explode, and above, Jenni is not far off either!
Below: Ceilidh, Donna and behind Donna is Jenni.   At right:  Bill.
At left is Killari - who is due a day after Breeze, and is also exploding!!
On the 18th of August, we headed to Adelaide for the Royal Adelaide Show to watch
CM Independant Miss and CM Desert Dreams compete, along with two other Cleveland
Bay Sporthorses who were entered in the Warmblood classes at the RAS Breed Day
held on the 20th of August.   The format changed a bit this year - the breed day was
held a fortnight before the actual show.
On the way down, we stopped at Brian, Tanya and Adrian Riddles place at Balaklava -
where I made sure I checked out one of their floats that they are building.
The boys build floats,
amongst other things, and
have Horse Safe Industries -
they will have a website
soon but I can put you in
touch with them should you
wish to contact them!
We saw Tap'N'Gate Titan
(Onslow) - who is not a year
old yet - and is already
HUGE!  He is by CM Oberon
Toblerone out of a
Schwandor III mare, Rosie.
Bert - at left - is a gorgeous
young stallion that the boys
bought from Allen Park Stud via
myself.   He has grown up
beautifully and is green broken
at this stage still being quite
young.   We went and saw a
beautiful Arabian Stallion out
the back of Gawler/Roseworthy,
and then headed to Billara Stud
at Mt Pleasant where we saw
Bill and Barb Henderson, who bred
Billara Beersheba, and of course
Wetherby Alpheratz (above) who is their
resident stallion (Imported from NZ).  He
is a grand old man and is still siring
gorgeous foals!
Above: The three Purebred CB Mares at Billara Stud thundering down
the hill, and at right: Billara Izzy - Bills halfbred mare having a workout.
Above the purebreds, you can see the two yearling 1/2 CBs.
Above: The Royal
Adelaide Show Breed
Day saw CM Desert
Dreams placed
Second in the Led
WB Gelding 2 yrs and
Under, and CM
Independant Miss win
her Led WB Filly 2yrs
and Under, and then
take out Reserve
Champion WB Female.
The Champion of that
section went on to take out
Supreme WB of the day!
Above: Frank and Dave -
Frank is a STB gelding
who has come to live with
me and is to be a future harness horse for me.
On the way home on the Sunday - again, we
stayed at Balaklava at the Riddles, and went
out to visit Lizzie at Riverton and see some
more Cleveland Bay Sporthorse mares.
They are gorgeous girls and are brilliant
examples of their breeding.
Pumba, the Riddles Tibettan Spaniel, who is
not spoilt at all, was being told to get off the
table by Tanya - and obviously not listening
to her! lol.... The little rat!  He certainly rules
the house!
Above and Above Right:
Frank has settled in -
having a big trot around
as you can see  and also
Winky-Wonky is acting like
he owns the place - he
only arrived with Frank on
Monday the 22nd August.
The horses were not entirely sure
what to make of this grey thing that
has big ears... particulary when he
tried to 'talk' to them!   Looks kinda
like a horse, but doesnt sound like
one at all!  They have all gotten over
it now and he is a part of the herd!
The goats - Above: Sox, and Above
Right: Stevie are quite happy roaming
around the property eating weeds
and whatever else they can get into!
Squirt (left) likes to think shes the
tough dog of the farm - but doesnt
really succeed!
Bill and his girls are having fun in
their paddock - you can see Annie
and Lady having a hoon while Bill
just wanders around sedately!
The pregnant girls are
still expanding!!
Left is Breeze -
starting to change
shape a bit now!
Above is Jenni - she is due about the 6th
of October... so a month and a bit away
yet.   Donna (at right) - well, I have been
expecting her to drop for a while - but
she obviously has other plans and is
making us wait!  Below: Jenni, Breeze
and Killari.. the whales!  Its lovely to go
Whale Watching in the back paddock! lol
Far Left: Jenni, and Left: Ceilidh.
Above is Roc On, watching the
girls in the paddock across the
road... He doesnt like to think he is
missing anything!
Below are the sheep!  You can
see the twins who were born on the
19th of August
and both are
Ewe Lambs, so
are keepers!
The half grown
lamb at right is
a boy however,
and has been
castrated and
tailed, and
when hes big
enough will be
gracing the
dinner plates.
Above Left - I have no
idea what Squirt was
doing, but she looks silly!
Above you can see
Mabel grazing - she is
heading off to a new
home soon as she has
been sold.
Diana, the Jersey, is a
friends cow who is doing
a great job keeping
Squirt in line - as is
Mabel, and Bolognese -
the Hereford with the
horns, is destined for the
freezer soon!
I tried to tell Squirt that running
up to Mabel and trying to talk to
her was not going to end well -
but did she listen???
Noooooooo - typical Squirt - has
to learn the hard way!
Tess the gorgeous Kelpie
supervised Ash riding Wizard
on the 26th of August!  Wiz is
a clever little cookie as you
can see!We also did a visit to
Allen Park Stud on the 26th
and took some shots of the
horses.
The Black and White stallion above right is Braveheart - who Breeze and Killari are
in foal to.   The buckskin filly is by Billara Beersheba and is for sale!
On the 27th of August -
the sheep were going to
get a quick tidy up, but
it ended up being a
Shearing Day and they
were well and truely
dealt with!   With it
being so wet and warm,
it doesnt take long for them to get fly struck, and a couple of them had a little 'dark patch'
on Thursday, and by the Saturday (27th) they were affected right around their bellies in a
couple of cases.   So shearing them, treating with Extinosad, another spray, and some
antibiotics, and all disasters should be avoided with them!
They were easy enough to put on the horse float with a mesh door above the tail gate in
case they decided to jump out - and were taken out to the farm to be done by John in his
shearing shed.   A huge thanks to John and John (Pom) for their help in getting that
done!!!    The big wether is huge (left) and is going in the freezer as soon as the meat
that is in there now has been eaten down - we not long put a sheep in the freezer as it is!
