Burleigh
DOB: 4th October 1994
Sire: George
(TB x Percheron)
Dam: Corgi (Clydesdale)
Burleigh stands about 16.2hh and is built like the proverbial
brick outhouse!

She is a lovely big mare with a sweet temperament although
she didnt have any handling at all until she was about 11 yrs
old.  At this time she was halter broken and moved off the
property of her birth to her new home with Lorraine
Richmond at Windermere Stud in Western Australia.

Lorraine very kindly sent her over to us after we lost CM
Astras Ariella.  Burleigh was in foal to Sandgate Reznor, who
was Ariellas sire..  As Burleigh has similar breeding to
Ariellas dam, Astra, Lorraine thought we might like the foal
inside her.   Sadly Burleigh aborted this foal at about 8
months gestation - we are not exactly sure why as he
seemed to be a perfect bay colt.

As a result of her lack of handling, while Burleigh is always
up for a chat (shes very talkative), she likes to keep her
distance... She will follow us around the paddock and the
yard closely, but doesnt seek out pats and scratches.

When caught she doesnt mind them too much though and is
fantastic to give her wormers and vaccinations to, and we
attribute this to Lorraines handling of her when she first got
her as well as her natrually nice nature
Burleighs Offspring...

She was bred in 2005 to our TB stallion CM
Danzaponastaa
. As you can see by her photo
above taken in July 06, she looked like she had
swallowed a bean bag! (never mind her being
terribly hairy and filthy when the photo was taken!)

On the 30th September 2006 - 33 days overdue
mind you - she produced a gorgeous Chestnut Colt
named
CM StaaBurst who has a lovely big blaze
and 4 white socks. His paddock name is Bobby.
He has been sold to Fiona Williams, who picked
him up on her way through to Western Australia
when she moved - just a couple of weeks after he
was weaned!  He travelled like an old pro and
Fiona was very impressed with him.  Bobby is
pictured at right at just a few hours old with
Burleigh.  He hadnt unfolded yet - he was probably
only 5 or 6 hours old!

Burleigh was  bred to
Allen Park Bald Eagle for an
October 2007 foal - in true Burleigh fashion, she
made us wait - this time 36 days overdue!!  She
had a very handsome Chestnut and White pinto
colt for us on the 22nd November 2007,
CM Richter Scale.    Ricky was named Richter
Scale as the colour pattern on his back looked like
the read out from an earthquake!  Sadly, Ricky
started having seizures at 3 months old and after
much consultation with our vets, it was decided that
the kindest thing was to put him to sleep.  A
Necropsy showed that his pineal gland in his brain
was rather tiny and black.  This is connected with
epilepsy.  The cause is not known - its one of those
'things happen' situations.Ricky is pictured below.
Burleigh was bred to Allen Park Bald Eagle for a 2008 foal - but unfortunately she slipped.
Burleigh will be joining the
Allen Park Stud herd to be bred to Allen Park Cherokee.  Grant has taken a shine to
Burls and she will go an run in the huge paddocks down there!
