Buck, or Buckethead, as we call him, is a prime
example of the offspring that is from the Sky
High/Chico lines that are so well known around
the jumping traps...
He has a wonderful jump on him and apparently
Stuart Tinney had him over 1.9m when he was
younger just to see what he could do, and he was
not too shabby at it!
We are hoping that we can take him further with
jumping, and Craig is going to start getting him
out to a few competitions in the future.
Up til now, they have been chasing cattle,
generally mucking around in the bush and we
have taken him to a few shows, and has had
great results.  He went in 4 classes for 3 ribbons
- two 2nd places and one 1st!  Not bad for his
first outing!
Buck is well known for his dread fear of wombats after
an unfortunate incident while mustering cattle... A mate
who was working alongside him cracked a wombat on
the head with the stockwhip, and it ran toward Buck, and
he looked like a cartoon character with his rear, then
pulling his hind legs under him while the wombat ran
underneath and down its hole which was located beyond
Buck!
Now, every rock could be a wombat waiting in ambush
and bears close inspection!
In his subsequent outings he has never been
unplaced in both the led and ridden rings.  He is
rather 'enthusiastic' about working and is not just
named Buck because of his colour! ;-)  He
enjoys some acrobatics shall we say, and you
can see its all for fun!  He gets excited and
expresses himself!  Craig and he are as mad
as each other, and are really well suited!  Hes a
great horse with a wonderful personality.  He
was Craigs mount when we were married in
2003.
He is one of the mounts in the
Wudinna SES
Mounted Search Team - he enjoys his bit of
community service!
Craig and Buck are a great match for each other - they
are both pretty laid back most of the time, but Craigs
electric backside and Bucks slight issues with authority
at times do cause some interesting moments.
We often say that Buck prefers to spend his time on two
legs and hes not real fussy which two.
At the 2008 SAPES Games, he spent the majority of the
day scaring the police horses, which wasnt particularly
nice of him.
Buck has been to Team Penning on a number of
occasions and 'performed' there as well, and
provided entertainment for others.
At home he has been ridden by Ashlee, who rides
just about everything up here when she gets the
chance, and she has gone really well on him, even
jumping him a little.
He is great out on rides
with the kids (Ashlee
and Sarah who are
always up here mucking
around with ponies and
horses), and loves
lazing around in the
paddock.
When the mood takes
him he can expell some
energy by burning
around with the herd of
mares he lives with at
the moment.
Below you can see Craig and Buck in
their SES outfit and looking rather smart.
