Our Latest Project!
Well, yes, we probably need our heads read....
BUT...
We are getting quite busy with our horses now,
and have been after some more land for a while..
So when the opportunity came up to purchase
another block of land with a house on it and a
lovely big shed that we can see either stables or
hay stacked in, we jumped at it!
Here are a few images of what we have just got
ourselves into.... and we will update this as we
renovate and make improvements.  As I type (the
5th June 2009) it is already quite different as
Craig has done quite a bit of tidying up outside
and some re-fencing in the last week since
settlement went through!
Since these photographs were taken, the
paddocks have been worked up and sown, and
weather permitting (and we are off to a good
start!) we will be cutting hay off of it in a few
months time.  This will be the first hay we will
have cut from our own property.
Up til now, when we have planted the paddocks at 'home' we
have just grazed them off rather than baling them for hay.  We
are planning on baling at least one of the home paddocks as
well this year.  We hand feed all year round, so being able to cut
our own will save us a little money that we are currently
spending on buying feed in.  We will still be buying in the
majority of our feed though through some great local farmers.
This new place is not huge - it is only 8 acres, however its 8
acres we didnt own a couple of weeks ago!  It is about 1km
from our 'home' property and is on the other side of Minnipa.
As you can see, the three
bay shed is rather large,
and we envisage storing
a number of small bales
in there, as well as being
able to have at least one
of the bays as a rather
huge stable in case it is
required down the track.
The front of the house has had a
verandah on it in the past and the posts
are still there and in good condition - so
we will put a new verandah on it -
probably just shadecloth at this stage,
to provide some shade for the front of
the house.
There are lovely trees lining the
driveway, and we have plans to add
some more trees into a couple of tree
belts which are being fenced off to stop
stock from destroying them.
Update: 13th June 2009
The first 8 photographs here were taken on the
13th June - you can see its decidedly greener
than it was in the previous pictures!
The first photograph at left here is the
un-bitumenised section of Moseley Tce and
runs right up to the driveway.
Below you can see the areas that Craig has
already cleared up and this section will be the
paddock that goes with the house.
The green paddock
above and at right is very
exciting for us - it is one
of the paddocks we are
going to cut for hay this
year if the crop is good
enough.  It hasnt been
worked for at least 20
years.
The section that is going to be included in the
paddock eventually between the big shed and the
old house is quite green.  We decided to fence it to
put a couple of horses in to eat it down....
On the 18th June, we put Ceilidh and
Peppa up there to eat it down... their
heads went down and hadnt risen by
the time we left them to come home!
The back of the house is looking better after a bit of a
tidy up - still lots to go, but its a start!
