Saturday 16th of January 2010 saw the birth of our much awaited foal
out of Lady Tuthaside, by CM Bedford Forrest.   This is Forrests
FIRST foal conceived and to hit the ground!   He has done us proud
and we are just thrilled with the result!
"Frank" as he is known in the
yard, has two beautiful ice blue
eyes, a big white face and is a
liver chestnut by the look of him!
He will grey out like his dear
mum in time.
Being that mum is an Overo Paint mare, this young
bloke is obviously an Overo as well having the big
face marking and the blue eyes...
He is, I think, the first Cleveland Bay Sporthorse in
Australasia with two blue eyes!
He is going to be a big boy, just like his dad.
He was born at 7:20am, and these shots were taken
from 7:40 to 8:30am....
It took him a relatively short time to get control of
those long long legs....
Squirt, the mini foxie pup, had to be in on the action and wanted to 'play'
with him... Each time Lady looked at her sideways however, she bolted
for the gate.  The little fella certainly doesnt have an issue with goats or
dogs as he has been exposed to both those, and cats - even at less than
an hour old!!   We have a young goat who wanders around at leisure.
With Forrest being 3/4 CB, 1/4 TB, and Lady,
while a fully registered Paint, is actually 3/4 TB,
this young bloke is 37.5% CB, 50% TB, 6.25%
Paint & 6.25% QH when you look at his pedigree.
In the photos below, you can
see a bay with a stripe
looking through the fence at
him... this is actually his older
half sister, CM Midnight
Moonlight, out of Lady
Tuthaside by Treena Boom
Deck who was one of our
2008 foals.
She is here for a week or so
as her owners are away and
she injured herself, so we
went and picked her up and
did a 'warranty job' as Craig
calls it on her by fixing her up
and taking care of her wound
til her owners get home!
Lady decided to have a sit
down and rest, but still licked
her clean while seated!
You can see by the photo below - even at less than an
hour old - he has a huge shoulder and joints, and is
going to be big!
We take it for granted now with the size of our foals,
however visitors, Jess and John arrived today from
Wistow and commented on his size!
This boy will hopefully have inherited the 'spark' and
presence in his movement of both his sire and dam.
With that hind end, he should be able to jump the
moon as well!  Time will tell!
After Craig checked his suck reflex - which was nice
and strong!  We helped him find the milk bar - he went
a little too far though and went right through and came
out the other side looking a little bewildered.  The photo
at right really shows the beautiful colour of his eye!
At an hour old he wasnt really
hungry, so was just playing
under there with his mums udder.
We left him to his own devices for
another hour or so and he had
found the teat on his own when
we went to help him find it.
At about 3 1/2 hours old, we had visitors from Koongawa
turn up - the Watsons!  Mackenzie and Jo Watson ride
Oscar and Beau at Pony Club, and Mackenzie was very
excited about seeing a new foal, as were her brothers,
Sam, and little Johnno.  Sam and Mac were in there right
away to give him cuddles and pats!
Squirt tried to help again and was
quickly caught by Mac and removed
from right in front of Franks nose -
not that he minded, but Squirt trying
to lick his nostrils was not helping
matters!!
Johnno stood back, a little nervous,
and mum, Jo stepped in and
reassured him so he could pat Frank.
Mackenzie has really taken to all
things horsey like a duck to water...
and Sam is as keen as mustard as
well.... so I think poor Jo and Mark will
be ending up as horse owners in the
not too distant future!
Frank was more than happy to stand there and lap up the attention.
He seemed to love getting the pats from Mac, Sam and Johnno.
These photos of Mackenzie with her hands on his face are really
sweet.   He was just not phased by any of the handling at all which
was great to see, as Lady can be a little standoffish if she doesnt
know you very well.
Sam decided he just had to give Frank a hug... only it wasnt
just a 'quick hug' - it was quite long and Frank just stood there
and took it all in his stride.  He is a really friendly fellow!
Lady, is as usual, a brilliant mum, and doesnt mind her baby
being handled.
Chloe the Cow wondered what the fuss was about and stood
there looking til Sam and Mac gave her a handfull of hay.
Ceilidh was very interested in the new arrival - she just loves
babies.  At one point, Chloe was looking through the fence into
Ladys tail to see what Frank was up to - Craig said she had
her nose right in there at Ladys udder!  Lady wasnt worried at
all.  At about 7 hours old, it was cuddle time again - this time
with Craig.... Sticking his nose in Craigs armpit probably wasnt
a great move! lol  Squirt was there to help - again!
Frank has lovely legs on him, and we couldnt be happier
with him!  Lady looks great, she looks much happier now
that she has that weight out of her and off her sore hind leg
- she degloved her hind leg and severed tendons a while
ago and while it may not look fantastic to some - it is 100%
better than it was and is responding well to treatment.   She
will always have a thickened leg, but at least she is healing
well and the bone has covered over nicely.   She is just a
little 'short' in her stride - which is to be expected!  Time will
tell just how little it will affect her now that she has the weight
off and it finishes healing!
