21st December 2008 The Billara Beersheba babies (well, three of them) had a few photographs taken of them... Left is CM Silver Serenade - "Dusty" - who is looking very moth eaten at the moment, she is losing her foal coat and is going grey underneath it, so she is a bit of a shocker right now! Right is CM Commanding Miss - "Jenni" - who we are keeping as a future broodmare - she is Bills first baby and we wanted a replacement out of her lovely mum as mum is getting on in years now. Below Right is CM Mighty Wings - "Wings" - who is out of a mare who is a half sister to Shane Rose's Beijing Olympics mount, All Luck. We are rather pleased with them.
Dusty and Jenni are wearing their halters and leads full time at the moment as they are getting some handling - and it teaches them to stand on a rope and have a rope trailing and not freak out about it, all in a safe yard!
Below: Jenni showing her lovely big trot!
You can see a wound on Dustys neck in the photo at left.... The photos below show its progression from when she first did it on the 20th November 2008, and it stitched up that same day - the stitches did not hold as pressure necrosis caused the flap to die off as you can see in the photo which is third in line, taken on the 5th December 2008. The last photo of it was taken on the 21st December 2008 - just a month after it happened, and as you can see it is nearly all healed up. We doubt that there will be any more than a tiny scar by the time its all finished with! It certainly doesnt affect her movement at all. How did she do it? Well, we had just spent the day tidying up anything that the foals may hurt themselves on in the big paddock - and then put them out - cutting off low branches,
dragging out fallen limbs, stumps, pieces sticking out etc... obviously we missed one, and she didnt!!
