2008 Foals                   Stock For Sale                     Home
CM Silver Serenade
"Dusty"
Sire: Billara Beersheba   Dam: Rossida
Born: 12th September 2008, approx 9:10pm
Its just NOT a birth without
at least one cat in the
picture...
There were all 6 of the cats
present by the time we were
there...
We had gone out for dinner,
and had joked at the
dinner table that if we
got home and there
was a foal, the people
we had dined out with
would get an abusive
phone call! lol....
Well, we got home,
Craig got to the foaling
yard first to check and
said 'Weve got a foal' - I
thought he was pulling
my leg til I heard a little
whinney.
The foal was still sitting
down, hadnt yet stood,
and was still wet, so
was only a real 'new'
one, we estimate that
she was born about
9:10pm.  We got home
at 9:45pm
She stood as soon as I
managed to get back
outside with the camera... so
these pics are of her first
stand!
Getting control of those long
long legs was a little difficult
at first, but shes got the hang
of them a little more now!  Shes not leaning back with
her butt in the air as much now - a couple of hours
later... Craig tested her suck reflex with his finger and
said she has a good one there!  Rossida is a good
mum and is being fairly protective, but allowing us to
have a good look at her baby.
Rossida was given a nice big mix
of Lucerne Chaff, Equus Gold NB
and some Cool Horse and Pony
Pellets - her second mix for the
day!  We figured she wouldnt
mind getting a second one after
just giving birth!
The filly who we have not yet
named is bay with a white star,
and even though she has three
white hooves, they are going to
darken up by the look of them.
She has a few grey hairs on her
face, however its hard to tell if
they are hers or ones from her
mum.  She does have grey hairs
on her muzzle and lips though, so
she will grey out by the looks of it!
A grey CBSH!
She is a precious and petite little
filly, and we are very pleased with
her.  She is out there now having
a big drink and a bounce around.
Saturday the 13th September we got a good
look at the little girl in daylight!
She is most definitely going to be grey, she is
quite grey across her loins and on her legs near
her socks.  Yes, she has socks!  They are little
but she has them!
She has those Cleveland Bay Ears that nearly
all CBSH foals have!  She WILL grow into them!
In the wind that was around on the 13th, if shes
not careful those ears may act like a hang glider
and she could fly away!
Sida obviously spent more time looking after her
baby than eating overnight as even though she
had cleaned her mix up, she had left most of her
hay.  She was given another mix in the morning
and more hay - there is still lots of both left!
Here are some close up pics of her little
socks on her hind legs.  They are really
just little splashes of white, but you can
clearly see the grey flecking on her legs
above them.  On her off fore she has a
white heel and thats about it.
Even though she had passed her
meconium shortly after birth, she
was straining a little on the
evening of the 13th, so she had
an enema - which she wasnt
terribly impressed about, but she
got over it!
She is the sweetest little filly, and
we couldnt be more pleased with
her!
Rossida has the sweetest face and
is a really lovely mare.
Spook of course had to be involved
and keep watch...
